ICBC allows alternative parts that meet its standards

ICBC maintains a list of authorized part suppliers from Mitchell's estimating database that are permitted to supply 'similar kind and quality' parts for ICBC claims, and it sets standards of performance for alternative parts suppliers.

In other words, aftermarket and recycled parts are part of the ICBC repair process when they meet those standards — they are not automatically excluded.

Your body shop selects the parts on the estimate

When your vehicle is estimated, the shop's estimator writes up the repair (in Mitchell) and selects the parts. If the shop is in ICBC's repair network it can bill ICBC directly. Clear, OE-numbered invoicing lets the shop document exactly which part was used.
