Tail lamps: count the pins, not the year

Model 3 tail lamps come in a 3-pin and a 4-pin connector version. The model year does NOT reliably tell you which — some 2021–2023 cars still use the 3-pin plug. Count the pins on your original connector before ordering.

  • 3-pin tail lamp — Tesla OE 1077397-00-H. Earlier connector. Bodyside outer lamp; inner lamp OE 1077401-00-G. Not interchangeable with 4-pin.
  • 4-pin tail lamp — Tesla OE 1502086-00-D. Later connector. Bodyside OE 1502086-00-D, liftgate OE 1502088-00-B. Not interchangeable with 3-pin.

3-pin and 4-pin tail lamps are not interchangeable — count the pins on your original connector; do not go by year.

How do I choose between the 3-pin and 4-pin tail lamp?

Count the pins on your original tail-lamp connector. The model year is not reliable — some 2021–2023 cars still use the 3-pin plug. The 3-pin and 4-pin lamps are not interchangeable.

Do I have to replace both headlights?

Tesla's service manual requires both headlamps to be the same type (Global or SAE) with the vehicle software configured to match. If your undamaged side is a different type it must be replaced too, and a type change also needs a Toolbox 3 configuration update. Check the type of your existing headlamp before ordering a single side.

Can I replace just a headlamp bracket instead of the whole headlight?

Often yes. On minor front impacts only the plastic mounting bracket (from $15) cracks while the headlamp housing is intact, saving a full headlight assembly. Have your shop confirm the housing is undamaged first.

Do you carry aftermarket and genuine OEM headlights?
