Tesla tail light replacement cost: Model 3 & Model Y lamp prices and labour hours

Updated · Version française

Tesla Model 3 / Model Y outer tail lamp, 4-pin, left, Tesla OE 1502086-00-D

A replacement tail light for a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y costs CA$149 to CA$269 per lamp in our catalogue, depending on the car, the lamp and its connector. Tesla's service manual allows 0.12 to 0.48 hour to replace one. Each lamp is its own part, so only the damaged one is replaced, not the set.

Before ordering, unplug the lamp you are replacing and count the pins. The 2017–2023 Model 3 and 2020–2024 Model Y lamps come in a 3-pin and a 4-pin version, and one will not plug into the other's harness without an adapter. Below: the price of each lamp, Tesla's labour time for each, what that time includes, and what to check on a quote. Our prices are generated from the catalogue, so they match the product pages. We sell parts and do no repairs, so we give no dollar figure for labour.

Tail light prices, by car and lamp

On the 2017–2023 Model 3 and the 2020–2024 Model Y there are four tail lamps: an outer lamp in each body side, and an inner lamp on each side of the trunk lid (Model 3) or liftgate (Model Y). Each comes in a 3-pin (SAE) and a 4-pin (Global) version, and Tesla's Canadian parts catalogue, searched in October 2026, lists both versions under the 2017–2023 Model 3. Go by the plug on your own car, not the year.

The 2024+ Model 3 Highland has its own lamps and no 3-pin or 4-pin choice: the main lamps sit on the trunk lid, and a smaller outer lamp sits in the rear bumper, which Tesla calls the rear fascia light.

Tesla's labour time, and what it includes

On the 2017–2023 Model 3 the outer lamp comes out from inside the trunk. Tesla's procedure (0.12 hour, correction code 17402002) removes the trunk bump stop and the trunk garnish, pulls the trunk carpet back, unplugs the lamp and takes off two nuts. On the 2020–2024 Model Y (0.30 hour, same code) the trunk load floors, the sill trim, two brackets and the side trim come out first, which is why it takes longer. On both, the procedure ends with a routine in Tesla's Toolbox software that resets the left or right body controller.

The inner lamp takes 0.18 hour on both cars (code 17402702). The trim panel on the trunk lid or liftgate comes off and the lamp is held by one nut. Tesla's manual calls this lamp the rear fog/reverse light.

On the Highland, a trunk lid lamp takes 0.24 hour (code 1740020032): the trunk latch cover and the trunk lid trim come off, then a nut and bolts. The outer lamp sits in the rear bumper, so Tesla's procedure for it (0.42 hour, code 1740020012) starts by taking the rear fascia off, and ends with a self-test of the rear fascia lights in Toolbox. For the 2025+ Model Y Juniper, Tesla allows 0.41 hour for the liftgate tail lamp (the light bar, code 1740030502) and 0.48 hour for a rear fascia lamp (code 1740030702). We don't sell Juniper tail lamps.

These are Tesla's times for the left side (the Juniper's liftgate light bar is a single lamp), as published when we checked in October 2026; the right side has its own procedure. Tesla notes each time already includes the procedures it links to, such as removing the trim or the rear fascia, so those should not be billed again on top.

The tail-lamp bracket

Tesla lists a separate tail-lamp bracket for each car and files it under the rear bumper. It is CA$29 for the 2017–2023 Model 3, CA$25 for the 2020–2024 Model Y, CA$29 for the Highland and CA$29 for the Juniper.

Replacing it takes the rear fascia off: Tesla allows 0.96 hour on the 2017–2023 Model 3 (code 10017102), where interior trim comes out as well, 0.60 hour on the 2020–2024 Model Y (same code) and 0.36 hour on the Highland (code 1001040042). Because it can only be seen with the bumper cover off, a broken bracket tends to show up after teardown rather than on the first estimate.

Checking a quote

A tail light quote should show the lamp's part number and the labour hours. Compare the hours with Tesla's time in the table: it already includes the trim removal and, for the outer lamp on the Highland, taking off the rear fascia. If the fascia was already off for other work, it should not be billed twice.

Check the part number against the car. A 3-pin lamp will not plug into a 4-pin harness without an adapter, and the Highland lamps are different parts from the 2017–2023 ones. When we checked Tesla's Canadian list prices in September 2026, a tail lamp was roughly CA$200 to CA$650 (rounded); ours are CA$149 – CA$269.

Have the estimate? Paste its parts lines into our estimate quote (maplev.ca/quote/) to see which lamps we supply and their list prices. No estimate yet: photos of the damage in the photo part finder (maplev.ca/find/) give a first list of parts to check against the car.

Frequently asked

How much is a Tesla Model 3 tail light?

At MapleV, per lamp, for the 2017–2023 Model 3: CA$199 for an outer 4-pin lamp, CA$269 for an inner 4-pin lamp, CA$149 for an outer 3-pin lamp and CA$159 for an inner 3-pin lamp. For the 2024+ Highland: CA$179 for a trunk lid lamp and CA$159 for a rear fascia lamp. Labour is extra.

How much is a Tesla Model Y tail light?

At MapleV, per lamp, for the 2020–2024 Model Y: CA$199 for an outer (body side) 4-pin lamp and CA$269 for an inner (liftgate) 4-pin lamp; the 3-pin versions are CA$149 and CA$159. Count the pins on your plug first. We don't sell tail lamps for the 2025+ Model Y Juniper. Labour is extra.

How long does it take to replace a Tesla tail light?

Tesla's flat-rate time for one lamp is 0.12 hour for the outer lamp on the 2017–2023 Model 3 and 0.30 hour on the 2020–2024 Model Y, 0.18 hour for the inner lamp on either, 0.24 hour for a Highland trunk lid lamp and 0.42 hour for a Highland rear fascia lamp, which needs the rear bumper cover off.

Do I need a 3-pin or a 4-pin tail light?

Unplug the lamp you are replacing and count the pins in its connector. The model year does not decide it, and one version will not plug into the other's harness without an adapter.

Is the Model 3 Highland tail light the same as the older Model 3's?

No. The 2024+ Highland uses its own trunk lid lamps (Tesla OE 1691498-00-F / 1691500-00-F) and rear fascia lamps (1712513-00-E / 1712514-00-E). They are different part numbers from the 2017–2023 lamps.
