Tesla side mirror cover replacement: Model 3 & Model Y part numbers, price and fit
If only the outer shell of a Tesla side mirror is scuffed or cracked, you do not need a new mirror. The shell, which Tesla calls the skull cap, clips onto the mirror, and Tesla's service manual allows 0.06 hour, about four minutes, to replace one on every Model 3 and Model Y generation. What the swap involves
There are no screws. On the 2017–2023 Model 3, Tesla's procedure pulls the rear of the cover outward to release its clips, pries along the inside and outside edges working forward, and lifts it off. On the 2021–2024 Model Y, a plastic trim tool releases the outboard and front inboard edges, and the cover lifts off its clips. On the Juniper, a trim tool releases the front outboard edge and the cover lifts upward off its tabs.
To fit the new one, line its clips or tabs up with the mirror and push down on the top until it snaps in. Tesla's time for this is 0.06 hour per side on all four generations, as published when we checked in October 2026.
Tesla's procedure uses a plastic trim tool. A screwdriver can mark the mirror housing, which stays on the car.

When a new cover is not enough
The cover is only the outer shell. If the mirror glass is broken, the mirror no longer folds or heats, the housing underneath is cracked, or the mirror has come loose from the door, the cover will not fix it; that is a mirror glass or a full mirror job, and mirrors differ by features from one build to the next.
If the cover's clips broke but the mirror is fine, a new cover is the whole repair.
