Tesla aero shield replacement: front and rear shields for the Model 3 and Model Y

Updated · Version française

Tesla Model 3 / Model Y front aero shield, Tesla OE 1499151-00-C

The aero shield is the panel under the car. One front shield, OE 1499151-00-C, fits the Model 3, Model 3 Highland, Model Y and Model Y Juniper. Tesla allows 0.18 hour to replace it on each. It also comes off for other work: on all four cars, Tesla's front lateral link procedure removes it first.

The rear shield, OE 1498771-00-E, fits the Model 3, Model 3 Highland and the 2020–2024 Model Y. Tesla allows 0.18 hour on the Model 3 and 0.24 hour on that Model Y. MapleV lists the front shield at CA$209, the rear shield at CA$209 and the two small rear suspension covers of the 2020–2024 Model Y at CA$19 each.

Which shield fits which Tesla

Check the number on the estimate, or look the part up in Tesla's parts catalogue, before you order. The rear shield is not listed for the Model Y Juniper. We do not stock the Juniper's rear underbody panel; Tesla's 2025+ Model Y procedure removes a panel held by eleven bolts, two push clips and two tabs.

What holds each shield, and Tesla's time

Tesla takes the shield off with the car raised and reuses its bolts and nuts. On the front shield, the bolts go to 5 Nm and the two nuts to 8 Nm, with a thin bead of Loctite 222 on the bolt threads. The rear shield's bolts also get threadlocker.

On the 2017–2023 Model 3, the rear procedure adds a check while the shield is off: make sure the high-voltage battery vent assemblies at the back of the battery have their breathers, and install any that are missing.

Other repairs that take the shield off

On all four cars, Tesla's front lower lateral link procedure removes the front aero shield first. On the 2025+ Model Y, the compliance link and front fascia procedures remove it too. Check the shield while it is off, and add it to the same order if it is torn.

Our guide to the front lateral and compliance links covers those repairs, with Tesla's labour times and alignment rules.
