Tesla rear bumper replacement cost: Model 3 & Model Y parts and labour hours
Updated · Version française

A rear bumper replacement on a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y is the same four lines as the front: the cover, the small parts that break with it, the labour and the paint. In our catalogue the cover itself is CA$329 to CA$459, sold unpainted, depending on the car. Tesla's service manual allows 0.48 to 0.84 hour to fit a new one. The lower section is a separate part on every generation, so damage low down does not always mean a new upper cover.
Below: the cover and lower-section prices for each generation, Tesla's flat-rate time for each, what that time includes, and what else tends to end up on the bill. Our prices are generated from the catalogue, so they match the product pages. We sell parts and do no body work, so we give no dollar figure for labour or paint.
Rear bumper prices and Tesla's labour time, by generation
Tesla publishes one replacement procedure for the upper cover, the part painted to body colour, and another for the lower section, each with its own flat-rate time. On the Model Y Juniper the upper cover is two pieces, left and right, and Tesla times each side on its own.
The lower section on its own is CA$139 on the 2017–2023 Model 3, CA$299 on the 2020–2024 Model Y, CA$219 on the Highland (CA$479 for the Performance) and CA$459 on the Juniper.

What the labour time covers, and what it doesn't
On the 2017–2023 Model 3, Tesla's procedure for a new upper cover takes the rear fascia off the car, moves the rear parking sensors (where fitted) and both rear reflectors to the new cover, unclips the diffuser and separates the lower section from the upper. The 2020–2024 Model Y is similar; on cars with HW3 the fascia harness and the parking sensors move across too, and HW4 cars skip those steps.
On the 2024+ Model 3, the rear fascia comes off as one assembly (Tesla allows 0.36 hour to remove and refit it). The rear fascia lights, the left Bluetooth (BLE) antenna and the diffuser then move to the new upper cover, which is held by 21 tabs. On the Juniper, the rear fascia and diffuser come off together (also 0.36 hour). Replacing its lower section means moving the diffuser, the licence plate lamps, the rear fascia lamps and the fascia harness to the new part, and unbolting the two upper side pieces from it.
Tesla notes that each flat-rate time already includes the procedures it links to, and that correction codes should not be stacked unless the procedure says so. A quote that bills the fascia removal and then the cover replacement for the same cover is counting the removal twice.
None of these procedures include paint. The cover arrives unpainted, so prep, primer, colour and clear coat are separate refinish lines that depend on your colour and the shop's paint system.
What else usually ends up on the bill
A rear hit hard enough to crack the cover often breaks what is fixed to it: the centre bracket and the side (wing) brackets that hold the cover to the body, the reflectors, and the tow hook and tow hitch covers. Behind the cover is the rear bumper beam, which a harder hit can damage. These only show up once the cover is off, which is why a first estimate often grows after teardown.
Order the cover that matches your car. The 2017–2023 Model 3 and the 2020–2024 Model Y covers come with or without parking sensor holes; a mismatched cover leaves holes where there are no sensors, or no holes for the sensors you have. On a Juniper, check whether one side or both are damaged, since each side is its own part.
Checking a quote against these numbers
Shops price labour as hours times their posted hourly rate. For a cover swap, the hours line should be close to Tesla's time in the table, plus refinish hours for the paint. If the hours are much higher, ask what else is included: brackets, the lower section, the reflectors or the beam.
Check the cover's part number against the table and against the car. If only the lower section is scraped, ask whether it can be replaced on its own: it is a separate part with its own Tesla procedure on every generation.
For the parts themselves, our prices are public list prices in Canadian dollars. Across all 26 bumper covers we sell, front and rear, the typical one is CA$339.
Have the estimate? Paste its parts lines into our estimate quote (maplev.ca/quote/) to see which lines we supply and their list prices. No estimate yet: photos of the damage in the photo part finder (maplev.ca/find/) give a first list of parts, with Tesla OE numbers, to check against the car.
Frequently asked
How much is a Tesla Model 3 rear bumper cover?
At MapleV, unpainted: CA$329 for the 2017–2023 Model 3, with or without parking sensor holes, and CA$459 for the 2024+ Model 3 Highland. The lower section is CA$139 on the 2017–2023 car and CA$219 on the Highland (CA$479 for the Performance). Paint and labour are extra.
How much is a Tesla Model Y rear bumper cover?
At MapleV, unpainted: CA$329 for the 2020–2024 Model Y, with or without sensor holes. On the 2025+ Model Y Juniper the upper cover is two side pieces, CA$459 each. The lower section is CA$299 on the 2020–2024 car and CA$459 on the Juniper.
How long does it take to replace a Tesla rear bumper?
Tesla's flat-rate time to fit a new upper rear cover is 0.72 hour on the 2017–2023 Model 3, 0.84 hour on the 2020–2024 Model Y, 0.54 hour on the Highland and 0.48 hour for the left side of a Juniper. Painting the new cover is extra, and usually takes longer than fitting it.
Can I replace only the lower part of a Tesla rear bumper?
Yes. On every Model 3 and Model Y generation the lower section is its own part with its own Tesla procedure: 0.72 hour on the 2017–2023 Model 3, 0.84 hour on the 2020–2024 Model Y, 0.60 hour on the Highland and 0.66 hour on the Juniper.
Does the new rear bumper cover come painted?
No. Our covers are supplied unpainted and primer-ready. The body shop paints them to your car's colour code, which is how a matched finish is normally done.
