Tesla headlight replacement cost: Model 3 & Model Y part prices and labour hours

A replacement headlight for a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y costs CA$479 to CA$749 per side in our catalogue, depending on which headlight the car has. Tesla's service manual allows 0.48 to 0.96 hour to replace one. On every generation the front bumper cover has to come off, or at least one side of it, which is most of that time.
Before paying for a whole lamp, check the mounting tabs. On a light front hit it is often only the plastic bracket that breaks, and the bracket is CA$15 on the 2017–2023 Model 3 and the 2020–2024 Model Y. Below: which headlight your car has, the price of each, Tesla's labour time and what that time includes.
Which headlight your car has, and what it costs
The 2017–2020 Model 3 has its own lamp. From 2021 the Model 3 and the Model Y share one lamp, until the Highland (2024) and the Juniper (2025) brought their own. The number is printed on the lamp housing; match it before ordering, especially on a 2020 or 2021 car built around a change.

Tesla's labour time, and what it includes
On the 2017–2023 Model 3 (0.54 hour, correction code 17400102), the procedure removes the frunk's underhood storage unit and the front bumper cover, then unplugs the lamp and takes it out. On the 2020–2024 Model Y (0.60 hour, code 17400102), the storage unit comes out and the left side of the bumper cover is released with an assistant, rather than the whole cover coming off.
On the Highland (0.48 hour for the North American SAE lamp, code 1740010022), the bumper cover comes off and the lamp is held by two bolts. On the Juniper (0.96 hour, code 1740020602), the lamp is held by three bolts. On all four, the procedure ends with a software reinstall and headlight aiming, so both belong on the quote.
These are Tesla's times for the left side, as published when we checked in October 2026; the right side has its own procedure. Tesla notes each time already includes the procedures it links to, such as removing the bumper cover, so that should not be billed again on top.
| Car | Flat-rate time | Correction code |
|---|---|---|
| Model 3, 2017–2023 | 0.54 h | 17400102 |
| Model Y, 2020–2024 | 0.60 h | 17400102 |
| Model 3 Highland, 2024+ (SAE lamp) | 0.48 h | 1740010022 |
| Model Y Juniper, 2025+ | 0.96 h | 1740020602 |
Bracket or whole headlight?
The headlight is bolted to the body through plastic mounting tabs. In a light hit, the tab or the bracket often breaks while the lens and the electronics are fine. A bracket is CA$15 for the 2017–2023 Model 3 and 2020–2024 Model Y, so it is worth checking before ordering a lamp. A cracked lens, water inside, a fault message or a lamp that no longer lights means the whole assembly.
Ask the shop to check the bracket with the bumper cover off; the labour to reach it is the same either way.
Checking a quote
A headlight quote should show the lamp, the labour hours and aiming. The hours should be close to Tesla's time in the table; if the bumper cover was already off for other work, removing it should not be charged twice.
If both headlights are being replaced, the bumper cover only comes off once, so the second side takes less extra time than the first.
